Robert Helman is one of the great figures of the Modern School of Paris.
Born in Romania, he came to Paris at the age of seventeen, where he studied law and subsequently practised as a lawyer.
In 1939, he fled to Barcelona where he studied fresco painting.
Back in Paris at the end of the Second World War, he turned exclusively to painting and gradually turned to abstraction with an emphasis on forces of earth, wind, tree, forest.
Numerous solo exhibitions in France, the U.S., Switzerland and Israel.
In 1983 the Modern Art of the City of Paris Museum organized a retrospective of his work and Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain paid homage few days before his death, on November 7th.
