Meissen porcelain platter decorated in gold, blue and rust in the "Onion" design
The centre with whimsical bouquet of a large blossom bamboo cane often called an aster and peony or chrysanthemum
The shape is very unusual with the four scalloped corners being curved and raised up with gilt highlights
Blue double crossed swords mark, with«2 k» (?) underneath and impressed with "138"
44.5 cm x 31.8 cm (17" 1/2 x 12" 1/2)
The original model of the "Blue Onion" is taken from an 18th century Chinese pattern (Kangxi period).
It was known as «bulb pattern» where the original fruits were pomegranates, interpreted by Meissen painters as onions ... a more familiar pattern.
