By John Burr was born in Edinburgh; he starts his career at the age of fourteen, entered the Trustee's Academy in Edinburgh in 1853 and began exhibiting.
In the year 1861, Burr moved to London and exhibited 18 works at the Royal Academy until 1882.
He died in 1893 in relative obscurity.
