A sterling silver carnet de bal “dance card holder" with leather interior,
a pencil holder and an ivory sheet where faint traces of the names written still survived.
Made by Birks at the end of the 19th century.

The 'Dance cards' were personal cases, small enough to be portable, used by ladies to keep track of the gentleman to whom they had promised dances at balls.
