To the front is an impressive hand engraved armorial with the motto “Stand Fast Craig Elachie” - Clan Grant - crested by an eagle's head and «Think on» - MacLellan Clan - crested by a lion's head. Elaborate monograms at the base
Fully hallmarked with a lion rampant in an oval and a sovereign head in a square with clipped corners; these marks appear on most Canadian silver from the last half of the 19th century, usually accompanied by the name or initials of the dealer for whom the piece was made.

Robert Hendery was the leading manufacturer in Montréal. Beside being one of the largest wholesale silver manufacturer in the 19th century, he was also a silversmith and a merchant. Over 100 Canadian dealers ordered silver from the Hendery firm which was bought in 1899 by Henry Birks and Sons.
