Considered as " the last one of the impressionists " Jules René Hervé was born at Langres, Haute Marne, in 1887; he settles down in Paris and enrolled at the School of Decorative Arts and the Fine Art School.
He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français for the first time in 1910.
He taught painting from 1911 to 1943 and he was elected Vice President of the Salon des Artistes Français.
L'Association des artistes français awarded him a silver medal in 1914 and a gold medal in 1925.
In 1937 he won a gold medal at the International Paris Exhibition.
His subjects ranged from rural genre of his hometown with the humble and picturesque events to Parisian city scenes, Parisian life and his monuments always painted with a marvellous harmony of colour and light.
