Jack Beder was born in Opatow, a small Polish village with a large Jewish community.
He immigrated to Montreal in 1926 and entered the École des Beaux-Arts de Montréal in 1929.
Starting 1931, he participated in numerous exhibitions across Canada.
In 1964, enthused by the Symposium international de Sculpture de Montréal (International Sculpture Symposium Montreal) Beder decides to turn almost exclusively to sculpture for the next 5 years
