The lacquer box is illustrating a Russian legend, The Sea King’s Daughter
Sadko a poor musician is invited to play music with his gusli (a Russian multi-string plucked instrument) in the Sea King’s palace, he is offered to choose a bride between the daughters of the King
Each garment is illuminated with an underlayment of an inlaid mother-of-pearl
Gold floral ornament rims the edges with sea creatures at each corner
Black lacquer finish and the traditional vibrant red lacquer covers the interior of the box
Inscribed Fedoskino in Cyrillic and signed in monogram left

There are four schools of Russian lacquered miniatures art: Fedoskino, Palekh, Kholui and Mstera.
Fedoskino was the first Russian art school to adopt the style of oriental lacquer.
The Russian lacquer are painted only on papier-mâché.
Fedoskino is the only lacquer miniature workshop which uses oil-painting, Palekh, Mstera and Kholui use egg tempera.
