Emigrated from Poland in 1911, Muhlstock was seven years old when he arrived in Montreal.
In 1928 he lived in Paris and studied with the painter Louis Biloul.
Once he returns to Montreal, Canada was in a financial crisis of the 30’s.
Muhlstock compassioned of this economical reality of the city of Montreal produced a series of sketches about the unemployed, the beggars and the homeless people of this time.
